Point Blank’s scholarship programme offers an opportunity to those who may not otherwise be able to attend an award winning music course here at the college in London. There are several awards available, and each is designed to give fresh talent a chance to progress. The awards are:
Neneh Cherry is a bona-fide legend on the UK urban music scene. She scored worldwide hits with tracks including the Grammy nominated “Buffalo Stance” and her collaboration with Youssou N’Dour “7 Seconds” which reached number 1 in 48 countries. Neneh also collaborated with Massive Attack on their groundbreaking “Blue Lines” album and more recently has recorded and performed with artists including Groove Armada and Gorillaz. Neneh is also known for her tireless support of UN campaigns to relieve debt and raise AIDS awareness in Africa. “Big up to Point Blank for giving new producers a chance to develop. We look forward to hearing your music” says Neneh.
George is known to millions as an icon of eighties pop. Songs like "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me? And "Karma Chameleon" were hits all over the world and his band Culture Club earned the distinction of being the first group since The Beatles to have three top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 from a debut album. George has also enjoyed international success as a solo artist and has DJ’ed at some of the biggest clubs in the world. "I am completely delighted to be part of this and wish you every success" says George of the scholarship scheme.
Lucy Ambache hosts the UK's premier urban breakfast show on Choice FM and has also presented DJ Takeover on MTV Base. She joined Choice in 2002 as their youngest ever DJ, hosting the drum & bass show Freshly Cut and worked alongside exciting acts such as Shy FX & T Power, Jaheim, Eric Benet, Vikter Duplaix and Hospital Records. DJing has taken Lucy all over the UK and internationally to France, Spain, Ireland, Thailand, Austrailia and to landmark clubs; Ministry of Sound, The Hacienda, and The End. Along the way she has shared the turntables with legends Roni Size, Trevor Nelson, Grooverider, and The Chemical Brothers. "The Point Blank scholarship is an amazing opportunity to let talent shine. It's so exciting to get talented young people on the right path. I wish i had the opportunity to do this years ago.These courses are an invaluable and practical way to get started in the industry - so I am a massive supporter" says Lucy.
Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30. The successful applicant will be enrolled on a single 12 week course module at no charge.
The course is awarded to the named applicant only and may not be exchanged for financial rewards.
One scholarship is awarded each term.
