Carl Cox is one of the most successful DJ's in the world and has been at the top of his game for years, so it was a real pleasure to welcome him to the studios. He met staff and students on his visit and had plenty of encouragement for the DJ class!
"If you're serious about your music then Point Blank is where you want to be" says Radio 1 DJ and dance music legend Pete Tong. And he should know. With a career spanning over 25 years, Pete is recognised worldwide as one of the most influential DJ's in dance music. From the emergence of House in the late 1980's to running the FFRR record label and of course hosting the legendary Essential Mix on Radio One, Pete has played a pivotal role in dance music culture. We're big fans of the Chems here at Point Blank so you can imagine how thrilled we were when they approached us to build an online music mixer featuring loops and samples from their back catalogue. The mixer proved to be hugely popular with students from all over the world who couldn't get enough of those Block Rockin Beats!
Having just won the 2010 BRIT Award for 'Best Producer' and with credits including Florence and the Machine, Kate Nash, Bloc Party, Maximo Park, Primal Scream and The Rapture, Paul Epworth is undoubtably one of music's hottest properties at the moment. With a CV like that we were delighted when Paul agreed to come in and share some of his experience with students on the HNC Music Production Course. Paul was incredibly generous with his time, talking students through a selection of the tracks that he has worked on and revealing the inside track on how he's become the country's most in-demand record producer. Wretch 32 swung by the Point Blank to hook up with Osasu, the winner of Choice FM and Barclaycard's recent competition to win a session in the studio with the grime star. They worked together with Point Blank tutor Alex Phountzi (Greenmoney/Bugz in the Attic), engineering Osasu's winning track which will be released on the Point Blank label in the near future. Keep an ear out for that!
