DJ Course: Intermediate

Overview	You have used turntables before but have never had anyone to watch you and give you advice on how to improve.You may be an experienced DJ who wants to experiment with different musical styles. You are not familiar with digital technology, and want to learn how to record your mixes. You want to learn how to mix using CD decks/ MP3’s/ Traktor DJ software.
Set up	The DJ equipment you need, turntable and mixer set up, connections, troubleshooting and tips. Maintenance, pro-technical tips and troubleshooting.
Drop mixing	the art of switching from one record to another, without matching the tempos of the two records.
Beat matching	How to keep two records playing in time together. Includes speeding up/slowing down techniques by hand, using the pitch adjustment fader, recognising different sounds on each record, where to mix in and out of the record.
Sound and levels	Get to grips with EQ, monitoring, headphone levels, panning, and level matching.
Tricks	Learn EQ tricks and fills, line/phono switch tricks, how to read the grooves on your records.
Digital recording	Record your mix using Steinberg’s Wavelab computer software. Includes an Introduction to audio editing, saving files to different audio formats and advice on necessary PC requirements.
CD mixing	Learn the main functions of the Pioneer CDJ1000 CD decks, including techniques that are not possible with vinyl such as cue points and looping. Learn how to incorporate the use of CD’s in the mix. Also look at the latest Tascam CD technology, which allows the manipulation of CD’s using analogue turntables.
MP3 mixing	Learn how to mix without the need for turntables, with Traktor DJ software on a PC - mix using MP3’s, Wav files and other audio formats.
Set building	Learn how to build a set for different occasions eg Competitions and demo CD’s.
CD burning	Graduate with a professionally recorded demo CD, Learn how to burn your mix onto an audio CD, with individual track markers.
