Cubase SX Course

Module 1: Intro to Production

Set up We show you what computer specification you will need for either PC or Mac and how a studio is connected via the mixing desk, including lessons on signal flow and connections.
Midi/USB Learn the theory and practice of communication between studio instruments.
Sequencing Software Training on the latest versions of both Cubase SX3 and Logic 7. Includes drum programming and song arrangement skills.
Audio Recording Record and edit audio files within the virtual and hardware studio environment, including basic microphone techniques, audio processing, normalising, reversing and the audio pool.
Sampling Learn the art of sampling on software samplers (Battery, Halion, EXS24) including recording, editing, looping, time- stretching, warping and accessing sound libraries from various formats. The law on sampling, importing audio in other formats, saving samples, separating outputs and more.
Instruments/Keyboard Module We teach on virtual instruments inside the computer (eg LM7, FM7, VB1, CS40, Neon, B4, Groove Agent, Pro 53) and on freestanding hardware in the studio eg Supernova, Nord Lead2, Roland 303, Juno 106. Covers synthesis level one and multi-sample synths.
Effects Add effects such as reverb, flange and delay to the mix using internal plug-ins and external effects units. Theory of gating, compression, delay times and how to convert audio into midi. How to set up FX sends in Cubase or Logic.
Audio pathway and the mixing desk Taught in Point Blank's state-of-the-art mixing studio whilst gaining first hand experience of mixing techniques from our professional mixing engineers. The role of EQ. How to achieve a good quality master recording in a workstation environment. Relate hardware set up to virtual mixing desk (Cubase SX3 or Logic 7).
Burn the tune on to CD Learn how to use CD mastering software at the end of the session so you can play your track in a professional environment.
The business An introduction into how the music industry works, including copyright, record companies, royalties, distribution companies and white labels. We give you extensive contact lists for all the above.
