Hip Hop Mixing Masterclass

A big "thank you" to Marcellus Fernandes for hosting our recent Mixing Masterclass which focused on producing Hip Hop and R&B.

Marcellus has credits on some of the biggest hits of the last ten years including tracks and remixes for Rihanna, T.I,  Mary J Blige, Sugababes, All Saints, Erykah Badu and Gangstarr amongst many others. Needless to say, we were inundated with requests from students who wanted to attend.

Marcellus demonstrated how professional producers achieve those crisp, crunchy urban beats via a series of practical demonstrations in Studio One. Check the video to learn how to use EQ and  compression to give definition to the kick drum. Notice how the producer has used layered kick drum sounds to emphasise different characteristics.
