Masterclass : Basslines & Groove

Our next masterclass takes place on May 28th and features bassist extraordinaire John McKenzie. John has played alongside stars such as Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Seal and Shakira.

He'll be hosting a practical session in Studio One at Point Blank focussing on basslines and groove. He'll be deconstructing a whole range of grooves from old skool masters like The Meters and Funkadelic to contemporary masters of the groove such as live improvised electronica band The Bays.

Too many electronic producers fall into the trap of programming beats that are lifeless and robotic. John will reveal how musicians work in the studio to build the rhythmic foundations of a track and show students how to use software such as Ableton and Logic to achieve a groove that's guaranteed to get bodies moving.

This masterclass is free to all students on a current course at Point Blank. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
