Sound Engineering Course - Certificate F.A.Q.
What are the entry requirements for this course?
The Sound Engineering Certificate is a creative, practical course and so no academic grades are required to enrol. The course starts off with an introductory module called "Introduction to Production". This ensures that students have a sound grasp of all the fundamental recording skills before moving on to more complex techniques in the later course modules.
What is my timetable ?
Certificate students take either one daytime class from 11am to 6pm or two evening classes from 6.30pm to 9.30pm each week. In addition to classes, students are expected to schedule a minimum of ten hours studio practical work each week. The studio facilities are open to you 7 days a week to enable you to get valuable studio time under your belt and reinforce the skills learned in class. Certificate students take 3 modules consecutively over one academic year.
Can I get funding for the course?
If you are aged over 18 and resident in the UK then you can apply for a Professional Career Development Loan to assist with funding your course. CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE or call the PCDL information line on 0800 585 505.
Is the course accredited? What qualification do I get?
The Sound Engineering Certificate is accredited at Level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and students can earn 21 credits. Upon completion of the course, students receive certification from Point Blank and from the National Open College Network (NOCN). NOCN accreditation is a nationally recognised qualification that is accepted by colleges, universities and employers.
Do you hold open days?
We host a studio tour every WEDNESDAY at 3pm and every SATURDAY at 12pm. Please CONTACT US to make an appointment. Our Admissions Manager will show you around the facilities, answer questions and offer course advice. If you are not available on a Wednesday afternoon we will be happy to arrange an alternative time, but please do make an appointment first in order that we can ensure someone is available to help you.
Do you provide accomodation?
We do not have our own halls of residence but there are several student residences near to the college. Among them are URBAN NEST, CANTO COURT, NIDO and LIBERTY HOUSE. If you prefer to find a flatshare or a private apartment then you should visit GUMTREE and MOVEFLAT.COM both of which add new properties every day.
I am an International Student. How do I apply?
This course is not eligible for a Student Visa. You should consider one of our Diploma Courses which are all accredited at Level 3 and therefore meet the necessary criteria for a Student Visa.
What equipment do I need to buy to take the course?
None. Every student has access to their own audio workstation in class and during their studio practical work. If you decide to buy equipment for your home studio then we will be happy to arrange student discounts from Apple Education and other leading industry partners.
I work full-time. Is it possible for me to take this course?
Yes. Classes are available in the evening and at weekends and we will be happy to arrange a timetable to fit around your work commitments.
